We had a fascinating evening of Buddhist theory on Thursday.
The evening was hosted by Buddhashanti who commenced proceedings with a session of the mindfulness of breathing.
Following this lovely and spacious start, he went on to interview Chandana about the principle at the very heart of Buddhist thinking – dependent arising, or conditionality. All things arise in dependence on a wealth of pre-conditions, and end because their pre-conditions end.
This might sound dry, but its consequences are monumental in their scale. We human beings are entirely subject to this law but, when we understand it, have opportunities to act in ways that pave the way for positive outcomes.
A group plenary followed as the assembled Sangha tested their lived experience against the teachings offered.
