Q&A – Ethics

,
  1. Does Buddhism set out moral laws for us to obey? If not, now else should we relate to the ‘5 precepts’?
  2. Is any one precept more important than the rest?
  3. Is the 2nd precept a bit like ‘thou shalt not steal’?
  4. How do the negative and positive versions of the 3rd precept relate to each other? It isn’t all that obvious!
  5. Should Buddhists be teetotal?
  6. So are these 5 ‘guidelines’ enough to give a complete ethical toolkit?

These were the questions put to Chandana, this week by Dharmakasara, who started the evening with a still and spacious Metta Bhavana meditation.

She then introduced us to this week’s subject matter and the resulting discussion neatly wrapped up our current miniseries

Space was made following the tea break for questions and comments.

Thank you to Chandana, plus Buddhashanti, Dayaka and Dharmakasara for so skilfully handling the last few weeks.
