Joy in the spiritual life

,

Last week Buddhashanti brought the theme of love to evening weaving in the story of the Buddha’s advice to his aunt Mahaprajapti.  Leading from that wonderful evening, this week we explored suffering (Dukkha) and, more importantly, Joy in the spiritual life.

Someone new to Buddhism can feel Buddhism is a little dry and pessimistic with too much emphasis on suffering and craving.  But the spiritual life can be filled with joy as the three poisons of greed, hatred and delusions are transcended giving space for love, joy and freedom to arise.

We met some very inspirational folk on our journey:  Dalai Lama, Milarepa, Sanharakshita, Jack Cornfiled and the talk concluded with a very moving quote on joy from Dipama.

Our new introduction to mediation and Buddhism course starts on the 24th February and we are very excited about it. If you are interested in joining us on a Monday evening for six weeks or know someone who would enjoy the course please email stockportbuddhistgroup@gmail.com.
