Spring Equinox

,

We celebrated the spring equinox at the Stockport Buddhist Group last Thursday.

Chandana led a very warm and connecting evening marking the changes of the seasons and bringing to mind how it can feel that the spring energy in nature is reflected in our own awakening.  He also explored how the teachings in Buddhism referred to spring time.  Unfortunately with only the three seasons in India, marking this great awakening was not an important aspect of the Buddha’s teachings.

Many of us brought poems celebrating this time of year.  These ranged from traditional spring poems to Haikus to a contribution from ChatGPT..

The beautiful shrine included mushrooms, a tree, many candles, ivy, a wooden spoon together with flowers from members’ gardens.

The evening concluded with a spring themed Metta Bhavana from Chandana and a special Puja from Sraddhatara celebrating the new season.
