Buddhashanti led an evening of meditation- devoting time to a longer-than-usual period of the mindfulness of breathing.
He then gave a brief outline of the central ideas in buddhist mindfulness.
- Being in the moment
- Having a sense purpose in the meditation
- Being aware of the nature of thoughts and feelings which arise
- ie Are they kind or unkind ?
- Are they arising from craving or contentment ?
- Are they selfish or generous?
And endeavoring, with patience, to encourage the kind, contented and generous tendencies.
After the break we had informal discussion groups.
We ended with another shorter period of meditation.
