Kalama Sutta

,

Last Thursday at the Stockport Group we enjoyed and explored the Kalamasutta as part of our sharing of Suttas and Sutras that are close to our hearts. Budhashanti gave a wonderful talk on the Sutta bringing to life how the Kalama villagers must have been confused by the flow of Sadhus each giving their own teachings and how the Buddha, when challenged about his own teachings, clarified how a teaching should be examined.

Buddhashanti also talked about how the understanding of the word ‘disinterest’ has changed and the beauty of its original meaning.

A visualisation meditation taking us back to village life in the time of the Buddha led into a three fold puja.

And, of course, there was the statutory tea and Cathy’s biscuits.

A great evening all round.
